The Neapolitan Crèche at the Art Institute of Chicago
The 18th-century Neapolitan crèche at the Art Institute of Chicago is a lavish and intricate nativity scene set in the bustling city of Naples that has become a Chicago holiday tradition.
We hope to evoke the richness of the crèche with the design of this catalogue. Photography of crèche scenes, figures, and details of the amazing artisanship of each element are paired with historical typographic references and book page elements, ethereal painted clouds (picked up from the Baroque display cabinet made especially for the crèche), textured linen book cloth, orange-red and metallic gold.
